There’s this phrase I keep hearing in the US: ā€œI appreciate you.ā€ Even if it’s a habitual throwaway phrase, I’m here for it. I can get behind more appreciation for each other, for every effort, for being here together.

Sidenote: Valentines is a big thing round here. Everywhere is decked out in hearts and flowers. How cute are these at a local coffee shop?

The instructor described me as ā€˜athletic’ and ā€˜aggressive’. 🧐Regardless of whether he even believed that, it got me thinking about how readily we hand out labels, how sometimes those labels feel relatable and sometimes they don’t.

I wonder if kids feel happy with the labels given to them, if they have a sense of choice over their own labels.

I’m not sure I’m athletic or aggressive. I want to be curious and courageous. Maybe I can choose those for myself.

(Thanks bro for sharing with me your love for this snow sports malarkey.)

The things you tell yourself, the things you say out loud. The things you say to your kids. There’s a strange kind of power in it.

When asked for NY resolutions I couldn’t give an When asked for NY resolutions I couldn’t give any. It’s too midwinter for big plans. One thing I do know- I want more PLAY in my days. More of that joyful curiosity that kids have in bucketloads. More doing stuff just cos, more belly laughs, more noodling about.
How bout you?

But this book only came about through sharing and that’s how it’ll get finished. So here I am, still going on this book about how we support non-speaking kids in the early years. Deadline is June so expect more build up! Xx xx

Shifting activities can be hard. Here’s a few su Shifting activities can be hard. Here’s a few suggestions to help with points of transition:
* create a predictable verbal routine to signal the end of an activity.
* allow time and acknowledge that they might not want to finish.
* try a transition object to carry with you as you move to the next thing. (Here I picked up the stick to carry with us and Rolo is happy even tho the stick chucks are finished).
